If you do not already have a Vision Board, or maybe have never even HEARD of a Vision Board, then this post could change your life! (No, seriously…..this is good stuff.)
A Vision Board is, literally, a board made of cardboard, poster board, canvas, etc., that you cover with a variety of items that you find inspiring and motivational. These items can be images, quotes, words, ideas or really anything that drives you to feel better or do better. You can create a Vision Board for your personal or business life or a combination of both.
Once you choose your “board” the next step is to find images and words that move you. One of the best ways to do this is to get a bunch of magazines, old or new. Find a nice, quiet, stress-free place to sit and simply begin cutting out things that inspire you. This can take an hour or a week. It all depends on what it is that you want to represent on your Vision Board and how easily you are able to find items to reflect that.
Be sure that once you cut out all these items that you sort through them before you start placing them and remove anything that doesn’t truly inspire you. Once you’ve done that, you can lay out the items on your board in a way that speaks to you. When you’re done, you can then secure them with tape, pins, glue or however else you want.
In the future, you may want to add, remove or cover items as your goals and dreams change and grow. Keep this in mind as you build your Vision Board and design it in a way that you are comfortable will grow with you.
The final step, once you have built your board and any glue or paint has dried, is to find it a home. Display your Vision Board in a place where you can see it easily at eye level; perhaps above your desk or on a wall that you walk by frequently. The point of this is to have a constant reminder of your goals, values and vision for your life.
Vision Boards may sound simple, and maybe like an Elementary School project, but don’t underestimate the effectiveness of this process. Spending time to focus on your vision and then having a reminder of that vision in plain sight inspires action and dedication to your goals.
Have you used a Vision Board in the past? How did you find that impacted you ability to reach your goals?
